Kelvin Valley Honey
Kelvin Valley Honey is an initiative of Kilsyth Community Market Garden a Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable aims owned and managed by residents of the Upper Kelvin Valley.The project was born out of people's concerns about the dramatic decline in the area's honey bee population in recent years and the negative impact this has on crop, wildlife and certain woodland trees pollination.
KVH's Novice Beekeepers Programme is at the heart of our aim of increasing the area's honey bee population by 12 million bees by 2016.
Would be Beekeepers will undertake a programme of training in the basics of beekeeping. This will equip those new to beekeeping with the essential knowledge and skills to maintain their own honey bee colony. Training will include visits to community and commercial apiaries and new beekeepers will have access to ongoing support through a network of experienced beekeeper mentors.
On completion of training novice bee keepers will be provided with all of the elements enabling them to build (with support) a bee hive. We have selected the National Standard Hive as the most appropriate model for new beekeeper
